Squeezing lemons and limes into watermelon juice and adding some seltzer produces a sparkling watermelon punch. It’s a cut above lemonade. Keep a pitcher of it on ice for summer afternoons.

Ingredients

Yield:Makes about 4½ cups
  • cups watermelon chunks
  • 2tablespoons lime juice
  • cup lemon juice
  • ¼cup superfine sugar
  • cups seltzer, chilled
  • Ice

Preparation

  1. Step 1

    In a blender, pulse the watermelon until smooth. Push it through a fine-mesh sieve. You should have at least 1¼ cups of juice.

  2. Step 2

    In a pitcher, combine 1¼ cups of the watermelon juice, the lime and lemon juices and the sugar. Whisk until the sugar has dissolved. Refrigerate until chilled. Add the chilled seltzer and stir gently. Serve over ice.

No need for sugar. Just purée watermelon and add juice of one lemon and one lime.

Sugar is optional, taste it first. It will all depend on how ripe your watermelon is. You can always pull out a cup of the mixture and dissolve some of sugar in that, mix it in and test it.

This was terrific. Made as described here. Spiked it lightly with basic rum. Served in a hollowed out mini watermelon at our beach bonfire. A winner!

This is delicious and super easy! I didn't strain the watermelon, but rather found the drink's body to be a plus. This is also great with rum.
