Ingredients
- 1cup sugar
Preparation
- Step 1
Put the sugar into a saucepan with 1 cup water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer and stir a minute or two, until the sugar dissolves. Take off heat and cool to room temperature. Store in a very clean jar; any solid particles may cause crystals to form. Refrigerate, tightly covered, up to a month.
- Simple syrup may be made in larger or smaller quantities with the same ratio of water and sugar.

Easy and especially nice to use in cold drinks as the sugar is already dissolved.
After you take the pan off the heat add a sprig of rosemary while it cools. Delicious in a variety of beverages.
Hi chrysis10 - What you're describing is often referred to as a "rich" simple syrup, with a two-to-one ratio of sugar to water. One advantage of a rich simple syrup is that it requires less liquid to achieve the same degree of sweetness offered by a classic simple syrup, like the one in this recipe. Both are easy, useful ways of achieving mixable sweetness in cocktails or nonalcoholic concoctions (such as scratch-made flavored sodas). Neither is the "right" or "wrong" way to go.
I find so much of the sugar is actually dissolved and stuck to the bottom of the saucepan…. How do I get that really sweet, sticky syrup out?
Too sweet ! I’m going to try with half the sugar… I may use honey instead do you think that will work? Thanks, Gary.
