With a wooden spoon, gradually blend the butter with the sugar, adding just a little sugar at a time. When all but about ½ cup of the sugar is left, add the milk. Beat the frosting with the spoon, add the rest of the sugar, and beat again until smooth. Add the vanilla and salt, and mix.

I expanded for 36 cupcakes and had made before and it was really sweet so I used 1.5 cups butter (3 sticks), and 2 cups sugar, 6 tbs whipping cream, 2 tsp vanilla. yummy
Very easy to make, with ingredients we had at home. This recipe also takes food coloring well.
Nice version of an old standard. I wouldn't even consider attempting this recipe without a mixer. I'm sure it can be done by hand but life's too short. If the frosting is too runny, add more powdered sugar, a bit at a time, until it gets to the thickness you want. If it's too thick, do the same but with milk. As previously mentioned, it takes food color well.
Good. Was a little runny, maybe heavy whipping cream next time?
