Ingredients

Yield:2 servings
  • 2quarts water
  • 1pound broccoli
  • 1tablespoon Oriental sesame paste
  • 1teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1tablespoon Oriental sesame oil
  • 3tablespoons very hot water
  • ¼cup chopped Italian, French or Greek olives
  • 1teaspoon fresh thyme leaves or ¼ teaspoon dried
  • 2tablespoons pine nuts
  • 1cup orzo

Preparation

  1. Step 1

    Bring 2 quarts water to boil in covered pot for orzo.

  2. Step 2

    Remove tough stems from broccoli and cut florets into bite-size pieces.

  3. Step 3

    In small bowl, thoroughly mix sesame paste, lemon juice, sesame oil and water. Stir in olives, thyme and pine nuts.

  4. Step 4

    Cook orzo in boiling water until tender, about 10 minutes.

  5. Step 5

    Steam broccoli 5 to 7 minutes.

  6. Step 6

    When orzo and broccoli are ready, drain and mix with sesame dressing.

is sesame paste just tahini?

Pretty much but Oriental/Chinese sesame paste uses toasted sesame and often garlic. Try adjusting this recipe with more toasted sesame oil and some garlic to taste.

This is delicious as is. If you wanted to make into a quick main course, I'm sure the addition of rotisserie roasted chicken would be yummy.
