A friend who lived for a few years in Tel Aviv introduced me to this bright, easy highball. If you like a Greyhound, you'll like this, too. Personally, I think the lipsmacking licorice-y flavor makes it even more refreshing.

  • 4ounces grapefruit juice
  • 2ounces arak
  • Seltzer, to taste
  • Grapefruit slice
  • Basil sprigs.

Preparation

  1. Step 1

    Fill a highball glass with ice, and add the grapefruit juice and arak, and top with seltzer.

  2. Step 2

    Garnish with a thick grapefruit twist and a few sprigs of basil.

My favorite Arak is Arak Muaddi ( www.muadddi.com ).

This cocktail took me back to my birthright trip, where I was introduced to Arak from the seedy bars to the swank resorts of Tel Aviv. This recipe is refreshing, light, and just as I remember it.

Added a splash of orange blossom water, super tasty!
